2018 Marketing Campaign & Content Planning Template

(Last Updated On: November 17, 2018)

With the last quarter of 2017 approaching, I decided to create my new annual marketing campaign planning template for 2018.

For some of you it might be a bit too early to start planning your content and campaigns calendar for the next year.

After all, we are still planning our campaigns for 2017.

But…

For those of you — who just like me are trying to be even more productive in 2018now is a great time to start planning our marketing efforts in 2018.

Hundreds of you used my Free Annual Social Media Content Calendar Template For 2017 and I hope it helped with planning your marketing content calendars this year.

Simply click here to access the annual marketing campaign planning template for 2018 and follow the instructions in the first Sheet to download it or save it to your Google Drive.

Please note: It is possible that people who do not have a Gmail account or a Google Drive account will not be able to access the Excel sheet via drive.  If you have troubles accessing the file above please visit this link here.

But the new 2018 content calendar and marketing campaign planning template is here and it has some great improvements.

And here they are…

The New And Improved Content Calendar & Marketing Campaign Planning Template For 2018

My 2017 content calendar template really helped me increase my productivity as a marketer and plan my content months in advance.

But I identified some gaps and opportunities to improve it.

That is why if you decide to use the new marketing calendar template 2018 you will see the following changes:

The Big Picture

Although the idea behind the original content calendar template was to give a monthly overview of your campaign efforts, I realized that I still couldn’t see the big picture.

That is why in the 2018 Campaign and Content calendar template I have included a new sheet called “2018 The Big Picture”.

Here is how it looks:

2018 The Big Picture - Annual Content Calendars and Marketing Campaign Planning by doraseeks.com
2018 The Big Picture – Annual Content Calendars and Marketing Campaign Planning by doraseeks.com

What’s inside the 2018 Big Picture  spreadsheet:

  • Yearly Overview of your planned campaigns and efforts;
  • Note and Priorities sections — a place to write down ideas, notes and your monthly campaign priorities;
  • Holidays — I pre-entered a few of the most popular holidays and day in 2018;
  • Calendar Key — for color-coding your entires;

How to fill it in:

Start by marking the important days in 2018 for you and your business, for example:

  • Holidays;
  • Seasonal trends;
  • Planned product launches;
  • Planned company events;
  • Industry events you are going to attend;

Then mark the start date and end dates of the campaigns you would like to plan, just like in the example below:

What I love about this approach is that by filling out the important days and holidays for the full year you come up with a ton of great ideas for new campaigns and content.

2018 Goal Setting

I recently published a blog post on productivity hacks for marketers and my top advice for all of you is that the key to productivity is to start with setting SMART long-term and short-term goals.

This is the reason behind the new “2018 Goal Setting” sheet.

2018 Marketing Calendar Template Goal Setting for marketers - Long-term and short-term goals spreadsheet
2018 Marketing Calendar Template – “Goal Setting” for marketers – Long-term and short-term goals spreadsheet

What’s inside the 2018 Goal Setting  spreadsheet:

  • A space to write down your three most important long-term (annual) goals for 2018;
  • A space to write down your top three most important short-term (monthly) goals;
  • Notes and Ideas section;

How to fill it in:

The process is simple:

  • Write down your yearly SMART goals;
  • Then write down your monthly SMART goals that will help you achieve your top three most important goals for 2018;
  • If you come up with any ideas or you want to add a note regarding your goals, make sure to write them down as well.

Read more about SMART goals and how to properly set your long-term and short-term goals for 2018 in my “Dumb vs smart productivity hacks for marketers” blog post.

Small Change in The Monthly Marketing Calendar Content Planning Sheets

The monthly content planning sheet template is almost identical to the content calendar planning sheets for 2017.

However, the one thing I felt that needs to be included is a special row for your “active campaigns”.

What’s inside the Marketing Content Calendar Template For 2018:

  • As always, I have included a separate spreadsheet for each month of the year 2018;
  • You will as well find notes on some of the most important holidays and days throughout the year;
  • A special row where you can mark down you currently active campaigns (after you have filled out your “2018 The Big Picture” sheet)
  • You will see a monthly calendar overview with days of the week, post timing, week numbers and dates;
    • The template will be very handy for social media managers because it has slots for your daily posting plan. However, it is completely customizable.
      • If you are a social media manager and you post 5 times a day you can insert two more rolls for each week of the month;
      • If you don’t need this monthly overview for social media strategy planning, you can customize it to your specific needs — whether you would like to plan your blog post schedule or your email marketing campaigns;
  • An extra space for your notes and ideas;

How to fill it in:

I personally still follow the same process from when I used to fill in my 2017 calendar.

Here is how you can do it:

  • Fill in the start and end dates of your marketing campaigns and other projects during the month;
  • Mark the holidays and other important days during the month;
  • Set content categories and color code them (you can do it in the “notes” section)
  • By looking at your active campaigns, projects and other important notes start planning out your content distribution throughout the month;
    • Don’t forget to take notes on the % of posts that will be self-promotional;
    • You might want to post the same thing during different times and days of the week, in order to reach more and different people (that is when the “time slots” come in handy)

When To Fill In Your Marketing Campaign Planning Spreadsheets?

As you can see, I am publishing this 2018 annual template in September 2017.

Which means that it is never too early (nor too late) to start planning your marketing campaign efforts and your content calendars.

In the marketing field research and planning are one of the most essential and time-consuming efforts.

I personally will aim to plan out my annual spreadsheet by October/November this year, while I like to have my monthly calendars planned at least a week or two before the beginning of each month.

However, when you start using the 2018 Marketing Campaign and Content Planning spreadsheet you will figure out what would work the best for you.

But you will do yourself a favor if you at least mark down the projects and campaigns a bit longer in advance.

    1. Hi Emma, here’s what you can do to get the file once you open the Google Docs link:
      1. Click on “File” from the Menu —> “Make a copy…” to save the file in your own Drive folders. This will keep all the formatting and notes untouched.
      2. Click on “File” from the Menu —> “Download as” –> ” Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)” to save this spreadsheet on your computer. Some of the formatting can slightly change.

      Hope that helps 🙂

    1. Hi Emma, when you open the file of the print-friendly PDF version of the 2018 Annual Campaign Planning Template it depends on your browser: but you should be able to find a “download” button or “download” as an option in the Menu. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts for print (Alt + Print Screen on Windows) and (Cmd + P on Mac).

      If you still have troubles downloading it, let me know 🙂
